Introduction to Zhong Xin Dao with Grandmaster Sam Chin
Pre-requisites: No previous experience is required to attend. This workshop is open to all participants! All concepts and principles will be reviewed.
Please note: Instruction will be in English with translation into French when necessary.
Grandmaster Sam F.S. Chin, the founder of Zhong Xin Dao I Liq Chuan, returns to Paris!
Grandmaster Chin’s approach is a style neutral” path of development that uses mindfulness to cultivate awareness of both mind and body, that will enable you to let go of reflexive habits through conscious action. Practitioners of all styles of martial and movement arts (and beginners too!) will benefit from this exploration of these universal principles.
The practice of Zhong Xin Dao (Center Heart Path) I Liq Chuan (Mental Physical Martial Art) cultivates consciousness based on Tai Chi and Chan (Zen) principles of non-assertion, non-resistance, harmony of yin and yang, oneness and the present moment.
In the universe all things are created by conditions and function through the energy of yin and yang. The whole universe has yin and yang energy. When yin and yang energy is balanced, they are harmonized. Students are taught the art through philosophy and a series of exercises in order to learn to recognize the balance of yin and yang energy, and discipline the inner energy flow (Qi – Chi – Ki). Developing this art benefits the whole nervous and intrinsic systems and brings total control, harmony and awareness to the mind and body.
By understanding the harmony (yin and yang) of the body, recognizing the limits of the structure, the movement in each of the three dimensional planes of cycles, the student transforms this internal energy into internal power, accumulating Chi which propels the appropriate natural body movements. I Liq Chuan makes you aware of your strength, its limits, and the best use of your strength for self-defense.
As a system of Kung Fu, Zhong Xin Dao I Liq Chuan emphasizes the development of internal power through mental attitude and awareness. The training develops sticking and merging abilities, circular spiral energy, Chin Na, Fa Jing, Chi Kung, and most importantly, integration of the mind’s complete awareness in the present moment – be it in daily life or any situation.
In this workshop you will explore:
- Philosophy, Concepts, and Principles
- Mindfulness, Concentration, Attention
- The Nature of Awareness
- The Five Qualities of Movement Unification

Grandmaster Sam F.S. Chin is the eldest son of the late Grandmaster Chin Lik Keong, the founder of the I Liq Chuan style of kung fu. Over the last 20 years Grandmaster Chin has been designing and refining his unique Zhong Xin Dao training curriculum, which enables all students to gain the skills that were once reserved for family members and ‘indoor’ disciples of the master. Today, Grandmaster Sam Chin continues to deepen his own understanding of awareness and the martial arts. He teaches workshops worldwide and resides in Pleasant Valley, NY (USA) with his wife, Peng.
Joshua Craig is a student of Grandmaster Sam Chin and he teaches Zhong Xin Dao I Liq Chuan classes in New York City, as well as at workshops in various cities around the world, and at the annual summer camp in Poland.
After Grandmaster Chin’s first workshop, Joshua will return throughout the year to introduce the Zhong Xin Dao program of basic exercises and home practice methods, so that participants may continue their exploration of these mind-body principles.
